This post will contain my workout summary for the Chloe Ting 2021 Get Fit Challenge pre-release schedule.
Well, well, well, what do we have here? Why, if it isn’t the lazy-as-all-things, hasn’t-worked-out-in-way-too-long Bob. I mean, I have exercised here and there, but it has been way too long since I’ve tried a challenge. I was sooo close to finishing week 2 of the Hourglass Challenge but this is the point where I admit defeat. I failed. Miserably. Which… is kind of disappointing given that the last challenge was only 3 weeks to begin with. What?
Then past two challenges she released were very HIIT-heavy and honestly I was disappointed that I wasn’t able to do them. But, living on the 3rd floor with sensitive downstairs neighbours with passive-aggressive tendencies, plus given how hectic life had been lately, I wasn’t really willing to stress myself out more by fighting that battle. We’re moving soon and I’m really looking forward to having no one bang on the ceiling downstairs when we’re only vacuuming.
The Get Fit Challenge is primarily weights-based, and so far I am digging the music. That intro tune gets me so pumped to exercise! Plus, one of my favourite full body workout videos is included in the lineup so I think it’s a sign for me to give it a go. The pre-release just launched today and is 5 days long, so this post will be dedicated to my attempt at the pre-release schedule.
The actual challenge officially begins on Monday 21st, and I’ll upload a new post for that week’s workout progress if I commit to the challenge.
Pre-Release
6/16 – Day 1: Completed 18:43.
Videos completed: 5min Warm Up, 15min Full Body, 6 Pack Abs, 5min Cool Down.
Video incomplete: Get Fit Arms.
Hooray!!! It has been so long and I absolutely loved today’s workout. The videos from the 2020 Get Fit Challenge were often my favourite to begin with so this one is right up my alley. I really enjoyed the brand new workout video and the moves. It felt like the perfect duration for a video.
I was pleasantly surprised at my ability to still workout. I’d anticipated needing to take it super easy so thought I should use my 3lb ankle weights as dumbbells, but I did one move with them and was not even slightly challenged. So, I used my 5lb dumbbells for the first 2 sets, avoided using weights for the planking exercises and used one 5lb dumbbell for the final lunge move. I really felt it this time, especially in my glutes and hamstrings when doing the deadlift, which is brilliant because I’ve never really felt it in the right muscles before.
I didn’t use any weights for the abs video because… well, it’s been a hot minute and my abs are fluffy and weak lol, so I didn’t want to use weights and end up compensating for the moves with stronger muscles in my other body parts. It was fine, my abs hurt. I’m going to feel it tomorrow. It’s fine. I’ll manage. No problem. Fiiine, just fine…
I didn’t really have much time to complete all 3 videos and still wanted to take things easier to get back into working out, so I skipped the Get Fit Arms video (though I love that video).
6/17 – Day 2: Completed 16:11.
Videos completed: 5min Warm Up, 15min Weighted Full Body, Get Fit Booty, 15min Cool Down.
Wow I am impressed! I didn’t sleep well last night, woke up sore (of course), and today is a sweltering 41°C (106°F) but there wasn’t a single moment where I felt like I didn’t want to exercise today. In fact, I’d been excited to work out since lunchtime. It’s been a while since I’ve felt like this and I am loving it.
I appreciate that today’s workout videos’ total duration was only 30min. I was encouraged by this and decided to do a longer cool down to stretch out my aching muscles. I was a happy level of sore today, if that makes sense. It was painful but not crippling and didn’t stop me from pushing through the workout.
I used my 5lb dumbbells for the non-ab exercises for video one and am impressed that my form for knee pushups still looked fine (if not better than before?) despite not having done a pushup in months. My plank form seems to have improved too in that I had better core engagement, but let’s be honest, I am weaker than I was before haha. There was no way I was going to use weights for any of the core exercises.
I was surprised that I didn’t enjoy this video as much as I remember enjoying it in the past. I noticed there were quite a few core moves that were the same as the new Get Fit Full Body video and to be honest I think I preferred the Get Fit one. However, I did enjoy the staggered deadlifts a lot! I really, really felt it in the right muscles this time, so that’s a win.
I wasn’t able to find my Chloe resistance bands for the booty workout, and actually I got sooo worried I’d accidentally thrown them out in the midst of moving chaos so this distracted me from having a really good workout for this video. But, thank God I found them in the end! It turns out I had been way too organised and had tidied them away to somewhere that wasn’t just strewn in a corner on the floor. I’m relieved now, but it was stressful at the time.
I used another light resistance band for a few moves but I did most of the video low impact with no equipment and it was enough, lol. My butt was probably the area that was already in the most pain this morning, then more pain occurred during the first video (those staggered deadlifts woah)… I don’t know what I was thinking when I grabbed a single 5lb dumbbell for the deadlifts in this video too. Owwie. These two videos may have been more for strength training but it was still enough to get my heart rate up to 171bpm.
The potential resistance bands loss distracted me from being fully present for the cool down too, but I enjoyed stretching out for most of it. I definitely needed the stretch! Tomorrow is a rest day where I’ll probably do more stretching to make up for it. Aw, I haven’t had a rest day in a while! I’m already starting to ache haha.
That being said, I just realised that we’re supposed to exercise over the weekend then the official workout schedule starts Monday, so depending on when the the first rest day of the official challenge is, we may end up with no rest for… 4-5 days? Sunday is my Sabbath so maybe I’ll just add an extra rest day for myself.
6/18 – Day 3: Rest day. No update.
6/19 – Day 4: Incomplete.
Videos incomplete: 15min Full Body, Get Fit Legs.
I… did not have time to exercise today. I had the desire to, but genuinely no time, and by the time I had time, it was late and I had no energy. Today was a very full day. Apart from doing our usual Bible reading in the morning followed by family Bible Study then cooking and having lunch, we also went to our new place to finally try out the paint that we purchased last week.
As part of that, we packed 5 more boxes and moved them over to unpack. Afterwards we stopped by my friend’s house to wish her a happy birthday and stayed to chat for a while and have some nibbles. Finally, we grabbed some takeout on our way home because, well, we’re pigs, and finished eating around 9:30pm. I need time to digest and wasn’t about to exercise at 10pm after everything we did today.
I didn’t sleep well last night, but I did intend to exercise… I just really didn’t have the time for it today. Tomorrow I was going to take a rest day but I think work out after all. It’s abs and arms from the Get Fit Challenge, which I think would be far more doable than the full body and legs videos from today.
Sitting down was a struggle yesterday, and my butt and legs are still pretty sore today, so maybe it worked out that I wasn’t able to do today’s videos after all.
6/20 – Day 5: Completed 18:34.
Videos completed: 5min Warm Up, 6 Pack Abs, Get Fit Arms, 15min Cool Down.
Yay! Done! Today’s was much easier for me because I did this at my new place with no equipment (because I had no equipment here), except a roll of painter’s tape for a few of the arm exercises.
I was able to jump for the warm up for the first time ever and it just made me so happy. I am glad today’s workout wasn’t too intense because again I didn’t sleep well last night and was feeling groggy and tired today.
Still, I’m really pleased to have completed the pre-release. I don’t think I’ll be too tired to start the challenge tomorrow so I’m looking forward to seeing the schedule and giving it a go.
This is the first pre-release I’ve done and I thoroughly enjoyed it! It’s supposed to be a preview to what the challenge will be like so if that’s true then I imagine I’ll absolutely love the challenge too.
Muchos love,
