Cake-Day

Exactly 2 weeks ago today, I turned 21 for the nth time. I kid you not, I seem to have flown to neverland at one point and got myself stuck there. I am literally twenteen. Some day I hope to grow up a little (mentally and physically please!) but that day is obviously yet to come.

But I digress. My birthday is one of those amazing-yet-annoying ones as it lands during the Easter hols.

On the bright side, this means I am usually free and so is everyone else. On the not-so-bright side, everyone else seem to have lives and friends and family to visit/return to, so nobody is around to celebrate with me. Ergo, my options are to either sit around on my lonesome watching property or comedy shows on TV, or go home and visit my family.

I sound like such a miserable old sod but to be honest, I really like chillaxing alone, ordering some take out and watching Location, Location, Location or How I Met Your Mother/The Big Bang Theory (apparently this is not normal?). I literally source L,L,L on 4OD and watch re-runs of every episode. You can tell I’m a hoot at parties.

I also love option #2, visiting the fam, which is exactly what I did.

First things’ first: food. Bobbie is not a happy bunny if Bobbie is a hungry one. As it was my birthday, I got to choose the place. So we went to Birmingham for dim sum, obvs. As if you didn’t already know I loved dim sum.

Nothing on Hakkasan but still delicious. This was part 1 of a banquet spread. I stopped taking photos after the initial flurry of dishes because, well, I was too busy eating. Sorry (not sorry)!

Then we headed home and watched property/comedy shows on TV, ha. I think it was Escape To The Country and HIMYM/TBBT re-runs. Still good for me. Dinner was delicious Duck Noodle Soup (whipped up in a flash by my mummy, who, by the way, cooks the most delicious dishes ever. If you ask nicely I may share some) but again no pics.

The part I really want to share with you though is this:

Ta-da! My home-made birthday cake. My ridiculously talented sister made this for me, isn’t she the bestest? I chose the fruit toppings and we decorated the cake together.

Mum found a bunch of candles and the three ladies of the family furiously debated which ones to use and where to place them on the cake to make it look pretty. Yes, I put my own candles on my cake. You can see I take this birthday thing really seriously.

We lit the candles and began taking customary birthday-cake photos:

Then began the most ridiculous and hilarious rendition of the birthday song with me gesturing wildy and singing along “to ME”, Nicole Scherzinger on X Factor style. I really wish I had a video of this to share with you but unfortunately only have stills that dad took. Let the blurriness commence.

I blew out the candles and made a wish. I almost wish I wished for ponies and rainbows and that I’d never grow up. But instead I just prayed my gratitude for such a wonderful family and a blessed life. I have a few favourite online bloggers/YouTubers, one of them is BubzBeauty who puts it perfectly:

BubzBeauty Blessed

I am truly, truly blessed to have a wonderful family, food in my stomach and a roof over my head. And the Lord Jesus of course. I don’t really need anything else.

Finally, my snap-happy sis took over as photographer.

You can tell we have a small and rather dated kitchen. None of our appliances are new and I think we’ve had the fridge since before my sister was born, and those wall tiles–bleurgh. I would love to take beautiful photos in there but…! Haha.

I keep wanting us to re-decorate the house but none of us have ever done it and don’t know where to start. My parents also don’t earn much at all, in fact if they had student loans they wouldn’t even be making enough to start paying them back, so they probably wouldn’t be able to afford one. Still, somehow that hasn’t stopped us from being able to go on holiday or eat what we want or do what we like.

You’ll see in the next post as the day after this we headed out to Murcia, Spain for a week. Maybe we’re easily pleased, but also we’re so blessed!

Looking back at these photos I do kinda wish we tidied up a little before taking them. SIGH. We’re a simple bunch, really.

I might get us a new kitchen for Christmas. Better start saving…

P.S. The cake was yum.

Muchos love,

Bobbie
