The Week in Fitness & Food

10/12 – Monday. Chloe Ting Get Peachy Challenge Day 1 – Completed 11:34.
Videos completed: Natacha Oceane 10min Warm Up, Chloe Ting Best Booty Workout, Pamela Reif 15min Daily Stretch.

Today, I have officially started the Chloe Ting Get Peachy Challenge! After a few months of not doing Chloe Ting, I am back to the woman who kicked off my current fitness journey. And I’m excited again! I purchased weights and resistance bands especially for this and I think it’s renewed my excitement for working out.

I think I was beginning to lose motivation when my health started to wane in the past couple of weeks. Plus I wanted to do reps-based workouts and there weren’t any follow alongs. I guess Chloe must be a mind reader because she released this program at the most perfect time for me. Brett is also very reputable so I fully trust that this will be a good challenge to do.

I don’t follow her warm up or cool down videos – she’s not very flexible so she doesn’t hold the stretches long enough for me, but I’ll be following her actual workout videos. I personally love Natacha’s warm up video so I’ll be using that one for the duration of the challenge. Depending how I’m feeling after, I may follow a shorter cool down video instead.

Today’s video felt like a nice way to ease into and be introduced to this program. It was a perfect length to start and get used to the moves as well as figure out the right weights to use, in my opinion. I realised I wasn’t feeling challenged when she said “your glutes should be burning” and mine didn’t hurt at all, so I started adding in a resistance band then slowly increasing my resistance band weight.

Unfortunately the heaviest dumbbell I have is 10lbs, which I was using the entire time. I didn’t realise I’d become strong enough to need more! Yay! My arms are weak so when I was carrying the dumbbells with arm strength during time of purchase I was dying already haha. Maybe I can buy some heavier weights next time. For the meantime, adding heavier resistance seems to work well.

I think I finally got the resistance right just before the last movement because my glutes were burning but I was still able to do the movement with good form. I went from X-Light to Medium haha. I was considering going up to Heavy but Medium was enough because of the short rest time for the last move.

My one complaint would be that Chloe moves a bit fast for the second move. I didn’t realise she was going so quickly so I stopped when she said so, but in reality I hadn’t completed the appropriate number of steps for some for some of the sets. So if you’re following along too, I’d recommend ignoring her beeps and counter or you may end up short-changing yourself.

Overall, I really enjoyed day one. I’m still waking up with headaches but I can ignore them for the sake of doing exercises that I love and look forward to. We only do this exercise once a week, which is a liiittle disappointing! But that’s okay, I guess I can just do it again in my own time haha ;)

Because I did lose a little more weight recently, here are some updated physique photos:

Yes – my black sports bra is definitely too large for me now but I’m still losing weight so don’t plan to buy any new ones yet heh heh. My green one is in the wash so this one will do.

Sleep-wise, my watch says that I had disrupted sleep twice. I definitely remember the second disruption, but I’m not sure about the first one, which apparently happened around 4:30am and lasted about 15min or so. Actually – I just remembered a second disruption during the night but I don’t recall staying awake for 15min.

Either way, I could not get up this morning when my alarm sounded. I was so tired. My bad for sleeping late last night even when I was already exhausted, really. I will certainly try to sleep earlier tonight or take an afternoon nap.

Gosh. I must subconsciously be doing a Try-All-Of-Chloe-Ting’s-Workout-Challenges challenge or something because this is my 3rd #chloetingchallenge in a row. I was considering changing to a different YouTuber’s workout program but none of the other ones I’ve found are fully free, and I don’t particularly feel like paying for them when we have Chloe.

Thank you, Chloe, for making all your workouts free!

The irony is that if other YouTubers all made their workouts free too, they’d probs be earning a lot more money via the ads and get a lot more subscribers too, but hey that’s just me speculating… *raises eyebrow,* *gives knowing look.*

After I completed Chloe’s 2020 Summer Shred Challenge on Monday I was only able to sit on my butt for a couple of days before I really wanted to exercise again, so on Thursday I tried a lower belly video (not bad, but her workout programs are locked behind a paywall), and on Friday I tried some yoga.

I thought about trying a yoga challenge for a month but it’s harder to do yoga with friends and if it’s just me by myself I’ll probably end up not working out after a week or so. Plus there aren’t any yoga channels that I like that offer free yoga workout programs in the way Chloe does, so back to Chloe it is!

I know she just released a new program that starts tomorrow but I’ve learned that it’s much better for me to look at all the videos in advance so I can determine if it’s something that is doable yet challenging for me. I don’t want to start and then either quit or end up short-changing myself by not trying my hardest because the difficulty level is too high.

Whilst trying to choose which new challenge to take on, I flip-flopped so many times between her 25 Day Hourglass Challenge and her 28 Day Flat Tummy Challenge because neither seemed ideal the way I felt her 2020 Summer Shred was going to be before I started that one. After much consideration, ultimately I decided on… her 2019, 30 Day Flat Belly Challenge! Lol.

Why?

Because it looks like the perfect mix of challenging yet not too insane. I love that even she was following the workout herself to get back in shape, and you can tell she worked herself hard because she’s sitting down taking deep breaths at the end of the videos haha. (Plus you get to see her SWEAT for once! Girl is not a robot and that makes me so happy mwahahahaha lolIamahorriblehumanbeing. But seriously it’s actually hilarious to hear the sarcasm in her own voiceovers like ‘ok we have this exercise next… greaaat.’ I feel vindicated and positively gleeful that Chloe feels our pain hahahaha. Somehow that makes me feel even more motivated.)

I like the music and that the song changes happen during the move transitions (both really important!) I like that most days it’s a 30-40min program because I exercise with a group of others; it’s just not worth getting on a group call to do a single video that only lasts 10min, which seems to be the schedule every other day for the 2020 Flat Tummy Challenge. I also love that her HIIT workouts include a warm up and cool down stretches in the actual video.

I may come to regret this later because some days the exercises are super long, but I feel much fitter after completing 2 of her challenges so I want to push a little harder. My only concern is that the entire challenge is comprised of 5 videos. There’s a chance I’ll get bored of repeating the same videos over and over but we’ll see how it goes.

I will be starting this challenge tomorrow but wanted to upload my ‘before’ shots ahead of time since I won’t have time to take photos tomorrow morning. So without further ado…

It’s that time again where Jacky and I take on another one of Chloe Ting’s workout challenges. Yes, last time I said that we would start the new workout on Wednesday and that did not happen. We were both very tired that week and then my period started and I ended up feeling way too tender.

I was still nursing a headache this morning but I finally decided enough was enough, I can’t keep excusing myself from exercise, and now I can finally fill in that ‘exercise’ column of my new bullet journal, lol.

I checked out a number of her programs and ultimately decided this one would work best. Jacky’s a trooper and is just happy to do any exercise with me so he let me choose. He’s the best <3

I’m glad this challenge has a lot more rest days. But of course, you can afford to take more rest days if it’s more of a long-haul program. I think after doing her 2 Week Shred Challenge I’m less intimidated by a slightly longer program, it’s only approx. 22-45min per day, and now that we have a bit more strength from completing the previous challenge I do feel it’s a lot more doable. Oh! And I actually like the music for this one haha, which I learned is more important to me than I thought it would be.

We had a noise complaint from our downstairs neighbour last time (with whom we’ve now made peace by the grace of God and some homemade banana bread hehe) so we’ve decided to replace her “Ep 1: 12min Full Body Workout” video with her “Ep 4: No Jumping HIIT” video. This should also be easier on our bodies while still giving us a great workout.

Unlike last time, I’m not going to post my weight, but I will still post my waist and hip measurements. This time, Jacky made sure to take photos of where on my body I measured my ‘before’ from so we can make sure the measurement results are accurate.

Last time I measured my hips at the smallest part, but this time I’ve taken the measurement from the largest part of my hips as you’re supposed to. In addition, I’ve made mini-videos of my progress pictures so we’ll be able to better perceive if there is a difference.

I took these photos just before we started exercising. I ate in the morning (albeit not a lot) and had an iced coffee in my system, but these are pretty close to what I’d look like in the morning anyway.

Without further ado…

Okay, Chloe. I see you. I see all your recommended videos popping up all over my YouTube. And I’ve just seen so. many. success. story. videos (<—!!) and okay I’m convinced. (If you’re only going to look at one, just watch the last one because, honestly, there are just too many.)

It looks like she has a lot of free workout programs but I think the one I’ve been seeing the success stories for, and the one I think I can actually commit to, is her 2 Weeks Shred Challenge (click here for the program).

I really love that she’s put all the videos together in such a convenient format on the page so all you need to do is literally just bookmark the page and click on the videos each day. Plus you know what you’ve signed up for in total workout time and total workout videos so you can plan your day accordingly.

In addition, she has a bunch of tips in the FAQ’s, meal plans and videos of the before/afters on the page to keep you motivated. This girl has thought of everything! I don’t know why I’ve been avoiding her until now. Thanks, YouTube algorithm, for recommending her to me.

I’ve been eating way too much sugar lately so let’s do this… starting tomorrow. Haha. I’ve already worked out for 25min today and I think that’s about as much as I can handle for now.

Here’s the thing: I was actually working out often and even going to the gym for the first time in a decade back in January/February, in preparation for my wedding. I’m really thankful we were able to have our wedding with our friends and family as it took place just a mere couple of weeks before quarantine began.

Unfortunately shortly after all the gyms shut down for quarantine, I also developed some other health problems so I stopped working out entirely, which in turn has probably made my health worse. It’s been a bit of a downward spiral. So my goal for this is simply to get back into shape. As in, get fit again, and I’m hoping this 2-week journey will be the start of regular workouts again.

I won’t be changing my diet and I don’t think I’ll lose any weight, but I do hope to tone back up and lose a few cm’s if possible. As such, I’ll post up my before and after numbers to see if there’s a difference. Not that there’s anything wrong with how I look now (I literally just posted an Instagram Story about how I liked how I looked haha) but it’d still be nice to know in case it helps to encourage you on your fitness journey.

Please check back on my progress and leave me a message to keep me motivated. That’s another reason I’m posting this online — because it’s very likely I’ll get lazy and give up otherwise. Let’s begin!
