Recipe: Pasta Primavera

This is my hubby’s recipe that I asked him to write for me because the first time he made it, I loved it. Now he’ll make it for us about twice a month and it’ll last us 3-4 meals. It tastes great on its own as a vegetarian dish, or you can serve it with pan-fried salmon if you’re feeling fancy.

And also because it’s his recipe, he included far more detailed ingredient quantities and also wrote it in a much neater format I usually do haha.

Thank you hubby <3

Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Manga Artwork – A Rant

Okay first thing’s first: I just finished reading the entire Cardcaptor Sakura manga (original) and despite the issues I have with the romantic relationships, I still loved it. Mostly, I loved the artwork. It is stunning. The lines are soft, and the eyes are always drawn with such gentle care showing vast emotion.

I cannot say the same for the Clear Card artwork.

It’s a shame because I feel like the artwork for the anime has improved greatly, so why is it that it’s like the manga artwork has taken three steps back? I can’t stand Sakura’s 3 giant lashes, and the gently layered lines from the OG series has been replaced with harsh, thick ink.

Actually that’s my overall complaint for their artwork. Everything is thicker, plainer… Like their art medium went from HB-2B pencils to a single 1.0 gel pen.

Where did all the detail go? The soft backgrounds, the realistic flowers, the gentle shading… Right now it’s putting me off so badly that I almost don’t want to keep reading, but I do love CCS so I will force myself to continue because I am curious to know what happens next.

The start of Clear Card is basically the same as the ending of the OG series, and if you just compare the two artwork side by side… whoever drew Sakura back in the day made her look older, more mature, but also with the same beautiful, delicate art style. The new one looks a bit… comical, and reminds me of the artwork of a different shoujo manga I forgot the name of but also did not like the art for (so I dropped it).

And how did Yukito end up looking even younger in the Clear Card arc than the original series? And Yue now looks like a 10yr old boy, nothing like his majestic self from before. He looks like a permanent chibi version of himself, and I do not mean that in an endearing way. Part of his greatest charm in the original was when he would break away from his pensive, cool expressions to show a more animated side of himself… but now he looks like a permanent caricature.

Speaking of chibi forms, you can barely tell their chibi and non-chibi forms apart because there’s just so little extra effort in the regular art anyway. In fact, you know what? Somehow everyone looks younger after “ageing” 2 years.

Seriously, CLAMP, what? I know they have gone through artist changes so… I dunno… I’m just disappointed.

Here, I’ll just show you (read right -> left):

Heads up: this is an ending spoiler for Cardcaptor Sakura, though it is also the start of the Clear Card series and was published 20yrs ago, so I’m not sure it can be considered much of a spoiler anymore. But here’s your warning anyway.

Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card – Prologue Review

Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card (2018) is the sequel to the anime Cardcaptor Sakura (1998-2000). You can watch the Prologue episode, along with the rest of the series, for free with (many, many) ads on Crunchyroll here.

I recently binge watched Cardcaptor Sakura on Netflix (though taking a break at episode 50 because I do recall watching most of it as a kid) and found out that there was a Cardcaptor Sakura sequel both in manga and anime form. I read good things, so I checked out the prologue episode. Here are some thoughts I had on it.

Major spoilers ahead for the entire Cardcaptor Sakura series – original, Clear Card, anime, manga and movies. You have been warned.

Growing Celery From Stalk Take 1: Fail

A month ago I also tried to grow celery from a stalk cutting. We bought the celery from Trader Joe’s. I’d done quite a bit of research online and it sounded simple enough.

I took off the very outer layer because the celery would have otherwise been to large to fit into my cute little tub (this, I later learned, was probably mistake #1), stuffed toothpicks in the celery and ensured the water level always covered the bottom but barely. For about a week it looked like nothing was happening.

Then, on the 14th May the centre started poking its head out, and by 15th May it’d grown even more:

Horticulture: Propagating My Money Tree

This post was last properly updated on 7/2/2020.
Note 8/19/2022: Since this post seems to be getting attention on Google, I wanted to pop in to let you guys know that at some point after cutting too close to the leaf node, my money tree also developed some sort of pest infection and started suffering.

After we moved to a new place, we unfortunately weren’t able to take good care of it and it eventually died. I never planted Stem2 due to laziness and eventually it got too gross in the jar so I had to throw it away. None of the leaf nodes survived. Stem1, the OG stem that was planted, is still alive but barely.

I always say I have a very, very brown thumb, so I’d maybe look at this post as what not to do if I were you :p

A month ago I wrote a post about trying to grow everything. One of those things was propagating my money tree. I’m amazed to say the first set have so far been successful, and I’m on my second lot now! I’ll update this post as time goes on, so please check back if you’re interested to see if my brown thumb manages to keep these alive.

Disclaimer: I don’t have a good track record, so please enter with the lowest of expectations and hopefully then you’ll have a chance of not being disappointed haha.

14th May

I originally cut these off around mid-April and after a month the main stem had begun to sprout white stuff. I took off 3 leaf nodes from the main stem. One wilted so I threw it out, but the other two were showing promising signs of rooting – one faster than the other.

There are a number of stems and leaf nodes to keep track of, so I’ll name them all for easier tracking:
Stem1 (main stem, which has undeveloped leaf nodes growing.)
S1LnA (Stem 1 Leaf Node A, was sunburned but somehow was growing fluffy bits faster than S1LnB.)
S1LnB (Stem 1 Leaf Node B, still has healthy, strong leaves. Bottom started to brown though no fluffy bits yet.)
S1LnC (Stem 1 Leaf Node C, wilted and died so I threw it out)

After those white fluffy bits started developing, the roots actually began to grow quickly on the main stem.
